I'm a Flash designer and I wondered what would be the best way to bring a gallery white box/museum space to online.
My first thought was to replicate the visual experience. Array of walls/rooms navigated with mouse motion. But after reading your articles, I feel a text-based database with good tagging/searching tools would be more efficient.
Or perhaps a nice combination of the two.

Thanks for the good read!

Another great post Koven.
You mentioned one of my pet peeves - the "my collection" feature so many museums now have or are developing. It doesn't make much sense in cyberspace. In the world of Google imaages, there are no institutional walls. Why would I create a collection of images that only contained the works that belonged to the Met, when I could create a collection on my computer by right clicking and saving, or by bookmarking with a tool like http://vi.sualize.us/? With an image bookmarking tool, I can have my Sunday Afternoon at La Grande Jatte (Chicago) cohabitate with Starry Night (MoMA) and Where do we Come From? Where are We Now and Where are We Going (MFA). Technology will force us to mingle our collections, our interpretive resources, and our scholarship...
